Suffolk Constabulary Announce Pointless Flags and a Crashing Website

I don’t like to knock the police as they do such a good and often thankless job. But this is ridiculous. At a time when Suffolk Constabulary is in a situation where it has to save £13.5 million over four years. They have decided to waste money Flying The Flag Against Hate Crime

Rainbow flags will be flown across police stations in the county this week in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) history month.

“The rainbow flag signifies pride and inclusivity,” said Mr Ash. “We must continue to recognise and embrace differences while ensuring we provide a policing service to the people of Suffolk who respect their differences

With LGBT month taking place every February, police aim to send out a message that the force will not accept crime motivated by hate and prejudice as well as championing being an equal opportunities employer.

Wouldn’t it be better to spend resources dealing with and stopping hate crime than flying silly flags?

Also Suffolk Constabulary announce that residents across Suffolk can see what crime and anti-social behaviour is happening on their streets following the launch with other forces in England and Wales of an interactive website they say it allows people to immediately see what has happened in their area and gives ways to contact their local Safer Neighbourhood Team. It forms a key part of the Government’s transparency agenda. Unfortunately due to the unforeseen fact that people want to use it the site has crashed so that all you’re likely to get with your post code is a blank screen but it’s supposed to look like this.

Obviously it would have been better to invest more in the website than silly flags.
