James Spencer at Bridge ward News has written a post in defence of the post Alasdair Ross is all upset about here. and I feel so I need to address some errors within it.
Obviously the fact that the Labour Party is full of intolerant snobs is well established. But what I find concerning about James’ post is the emphasis on class. I find this concerning because as this country’s greatest peace time prime minister said, “In the Conservative Party we have no truck with outmoded Marxist doctrine about class warfare. For us it is not who you are, who your family is or where you come from that matters, but what you are and what you can do for your country that counts.”
Also I don’t think it’s fair to point out that Councillor Ross is the rugby coach at the very expensive Ipswich School while claiming to speak for the ‘working class. Such a hypercritical contradiction is normal for a Labour politician and has been for decades.
Also, I have never commented on Dame Bryony’s looks. If she was made to look unattractive by the particularly good picture of David Ellesmere it was purely unintentional on my part.
Isn’t it ironic how Ipswich Spy started the thing about David Ellesmere’s looks and Alasdair praises the one man collective the Wet Tory ‘neutral’ blog because Alasdair thinks it’s middle class?
Of course James is absolutely right about the white collar public sector dominating the Labour Party. But they feel so it would be a good idea to support the anti-all-cuts demonstrations. Then they can pretend they’re trying to protect jobs while in reality protecting the funds of their trade union masters.
Furthermore, I can understand why Labour would be scared of such a thing and here’s mine.

I know Alasdair and a number of labour councillors, from what I’ve seen they are hard working people who give up their time to try and make things better for the people of their wards.I find it strange but I do find myself agreeing with you on the class issue of James Spencer’s post, maybe he has a different idea of what counts as working class and only considers an archaic vision of miners heading of to the pits as meeting that definition but the reality is that the ipswich labour party still has a majority of working class members and has not turned its back on its working class roots
My point was that in the Conservative party class is not an issue. I’m a One Nation Conservative who wants to see all remnants of the class system destroyed.
But if we are going to bring the regressive concept of class that Labour ideology is based on into it, you must agree that there are plenty of middle class people on the left who look down on the traditional working class in a way no Tory would.
Look at Bryony’s speech to the Labour conference mentioning how her ward has areas of significant deprivation. It was patronising to the people who live in those areas. Labour spent 13 years patronising them and they still do patronise them. So yes, Labour look down on the traditional working class when class shouldn’t even be an issue anymore.
I visited Chatsworth last year – and learned how Victorian Dukes boasted about the quality of their gardeners.
