In todays Ipswich Star is a quote by Labour Councillor for Sprites Ward, Hamil Clarke.
Many migrant workers are doing jobs that the indigenous population do not want to do. This is really positive for Ipswich.
Absolute rubbish! How can we possibly know the indigenous population do not want these jobs when the indigenous population know nothing about them? The indigenous population are not going to be applying for jobs that are advertised in Polish, Lithuanian etc. are they? Yes I know it’s illegal for them to advertise in their own language but whose going to know a piece of foreign writing is a job advertisement? Even if that wasn’t the case, employment agencies are staffed by migrant workers who are more than willing to help their paisan.
If the indigenous population were able to be choosy about what jobs to take then we wouldn’t have an average of 4 people applying for every job as stated by a member of Ipswich Labour in the Star a few weeks ago.
How naive of you, Kevin…
The fact you think my post is naive shows a level of naivete on your part Ken.
Is that the best you can come up with? Are you not aware that employment agencies couldn’t fill the minimum paid jobs with workers who you call ‘indigenous’, and the only people willing to take up such menial jobs were immigrants? Cllr Clarke is correct in his assumption.
It was Hamil who used the word ‘indigenous’ first. Have you been to any such agency lately? The migrant workers at the desk can make it more difficult for ‘indigenous’ workers and they do. Are you claiming it doesn’t happen?
