Appeal after purse theft in Ipswich

Police are appealing for witnesses after an incident in Ipswich yesterday, Tuesday 24 April, at approximately 2.15pm.

An 72-year-old female victim was walking along Clarkson Street. She was about to cross the road when a man ran from Benezet Street and grabbed her handbag. He ran off turning right into London Road. The victim was not harmed during the incident.

The offender is described as a man of medium height and was wearing a dark coat with a hood.

Police are not linking this to other incidents at this time.

To reduce the risk of robbery you can…
– Keep your bag closed and carry it across your body, if possible with the opening towards you.
– Don’t advertise your valuables, keep them in your pocket or handbag out of sight. Check it is safe before you use your phone.
– Don’t carry large amounts of cash or valuable items with you.
– Keep keys securely zipped in a pocket so you can still enter your property if your bag is stolen.
– Carry a personal attack alarm in your pocket.
– Make sure your phone and other valuables are security marked and registered on http://www.immobilise.com.
