Question time at Ipswich Borough Council’s Full Council meeting last night proved interesting in a number of areas, not least when the consultation process regarding the building of wind turbines on land at Thorington Hall was raised by a member of the public.

Labour’s Environment Portfolio Holder, Cllr Sandy Martin, explained the process of consultation, which started back in 2008 with a report to Executive Committee by the then portfolio holder, Liberal Democrat former councillor Louise Gooch.

The impression given by Cllr Martin is one of a seemless progression of consultation, with all three parties fully behind the proposals. But that isn’t quite true. Reading the minutes of that original decision shows that Cllr Gooch emphasised the importance of public consultation. Tory Cllr Steven Wells reiterated the the need for consultation.

    We’re in favour of better consultation, that doesn’t mean that we think they shouldn’t be built.
