Suffolk Conservatives Launch Election Manifesto

Monday, 25 March, 2013

“Suffolk Conservatives are on the side of struggling households across the county” – that’s the message as their election manifesto goes live today, with a focus on aspiration, more effective services and no increases in council tax for four years.

Having steered the county through tough financial times while keeping council tax down, the 2013 election manifesto focuses squarely on the future, with five top pledges for the next four years:

No increase in council tax for the next four years;
High-speed broadband across Suffolk;
County-wide ‘No Cold Calling Zone’;
A new Travel Card for young people;
£270million investment in care facilities.

At the same time, there is confirmation that there will be a strong focus on raising the bar in education, completing the county’s School Organisation Review, further investment in apprenticeships for young people and confirmation that all of Suffolk’s libraries are open for business.

Commenting on the launch, Mark Bee, Conservative leader of the county council, said:

“Suffolk is a great county with a great future. We will help hard-pressed households across the county by freezing council tax for four years.

“But more than that, we want to light the blue touch paper on Suffolk’s aspirations, with a travel card for young people, high-speed broadband for all, and by pressing ahead with our ‘Raising the Bar’ education programme and school organisation review.

“At the same time, we are over-seeing a major investment in care facilities for older people and will work closely with the police to make Suffolk the safest county: protecting Suffolk and aspiring for its future”
