On Thursday evening I attended the Ipswich Borough Scrutiny Committee meeting
They discussed the shortage of school places. Sprites councillor for Labour, Roger Fern asked Conservative County Councillor responsible for education, Lisa Chambers what the county council was doing to ensure there was enough places. The reply was concise.
There was some excellent questions from Tories, Liz Harsant and Richard Pope and Lib Dem Inga Lockimgton. Rushmere councillor for Labour, Sandra Gage asked about traffic congestion and asked why there aren’t more new builds. The answer was about what is cost effective. Labour want to spend, spend, spend.
Roger Fern asked how they would identify a suitable town centre site for a new school. Comercial sensitivity is involved. Roger Fern also asked why the problem is being addressed when some of the kids are now four. (Since when have things moved fast in local goverenment?)
Roger Fern also asked why funding has been cut. Lisa Chambers informed us that it has been restructured. Clearly Labour still believe in the magic money tree.
