The UK government has agreed to take 20,000 vulnerable Syrian refugees over the next five years. Suffolk has made an offer to take 200 of them and it looks as if the majority will be coming to the Ipswich area from March 2016 onward.
The churches of Ipswich are being asked to help in providing a welcome and support for these people who have suffered much. Many agencies will be co-operating, particularly Suffolk Refugee Support.
As yet, it is not known where the refugees will be housed – over a five year period. There will be at the most six to eight weeks’ notice to find a church or churches close to each house that can help
