UN Security Council Tackles Slavery in Conflict

Following an historic debate on 20 December 2016 UN Security Council Resolution 2331 was passed unanimously. The Resolution calls on member states to prevent, investigate and prosecute perpetrators of trafficking and slavery in conflict situations and calls for better protection measures.

During the debate, Walk Free supporters heard the testimony of survivors who are now bravely and tirelessly standing up against slavery in conflict. Nadia Murad, a survivor and human rights defender, spoke about how 3,000 Yazidis are enslaved and demanded prosecution for these crimes.
