East Anglia’s Premier Political Blog has been informed that last Thursday, the Ipswich North East Area Committee turned into a complete and utter farce. We have been informed that the farce began with Item 12 Which was a funding request from ISCRE for £2050 for a hundred women to hear about maternity rights. The funding includes £400 for the train fare of an expert from Manchester and £100 for the train fare of an expert from London. Why they are insisting on experts coming from London and Manchester to talk about maternity rights rather than getting an expert from the local branch of UNISON or something to talk about them must be put down to them believing in the notion of the magic money tree.
Conservative Councillor for Bixley, Eddy Philips asked if they were using ISCRE’s unrestricted funds, to which the reply from the person presenting the funding request was “I don’t know anything about that.”
After this Conservative Councillor for Bixley, John Carnal started to speak but was shut down by committee chair, Saint Johns Councillor for Labour, Shelly Darwin who said “We are going to the vote now.” To which Councillor Carnal sarcasticly said “That’s democracy in action.” Of course, Shelly Darwin, as a devotee of the cultus of Jeremy of Islington, obviously wouldn’t believe in such a concept as democracy anyway. The five Labour councillors voted for so the four Conservative councillors were outnumbered.
The farce continued with Item 13 which was a Funding request from the Future Females Society of £5000 for ten women. Yes, that’s right. £5000 for a project to help ten women after a request for £2050 to help a hundred women. We have been informed that the farce continued with democratic debate being stifled and the Labour councillors voting it through because they just love to spend other people’s money no matter what.
