It is hoped that the closure will be changed to traffic lights once the stack has been removed.
Suffolk Highways have said,
‘We are concerned with the proposal to reinstate one lane working on The Street. Although scaffolding has now been erected at the site, this was for the purposes of access only and the stack is still at risk of collapse. The scaffolding has not been designed to prevent large sections of brickwork falling onto the road and is unlikely to offer protection to pedestrians or traffic below should there be any collapse. We are hoping to get agreement from the Loss Adjusters, when they visit the site tomorrow morning, to demolish the stack and if this happens the upper section of the stack will be demolished as soon as possible following their visit. Once this has happened it will then be safe to modify the scaffolding and to put traffic lights on the
