The State of Ipswich Political Blogging

Ipswich Conservatives have a number of bloggers in their ranks. Blogs include Cllr Liz Harsant’s blog, Bridge Ward News, Ipswich Politics, Chris Chambers' blog, Rushmere Conservatives, Gavin Maclures musings, A Political Odyssey and of course A Riverside View, Many of these blogs are very well written and are also informative.

The Lib Dems have Cllr Ken Bates’ blog and that is about all.

Ipswich Labour have two blogs and they are both of a low quality. The better written of the two is the dRoss Blog where Alasdair informs us every week what he’s going to be doing the next week with a couple of paragraphs at the end telling us how evil us Tories are. Though the better written of the two Labour blogs, the dRoss Blog is not the most prominent local Labour blog. The most prominent Labour blog is of course Ipswich Spy which cleverly claims to be neutral. With it’s many articles on David Ellesmere and constant berating of Tories, it is clearly a Labour campaign blog. With pictures of David Cameron scratching his head and pictures of Odd Milliband smiling to work at a subliminal level to make people believe that the government is incompetent while the party that caused the mess in the first place somehow has miraculously changed its spots, it cleverly tries to win the waverers over to Labour, but it is still so poorly written and long winded most waverers probably fall asleep before the end of each post.. It even had a rubbish post claiming that David Ellesmere was a good local councillor in Gipping. That was obviously campaigning for the parliamentary elections and considering most people who live in Gipping Ward have never heard of him it was a silly thing to do. But Ipswich spy’s favourite line of attack on Conservatives is social media. It claims that Ipswich Tories hate social media. As there are so many Tory blogs in Ipswich the claim is absolutely factious. Recently it has had two articles claiming that Ipswich Tories hate twitter. As Ben Gummer, Nadia Cenci and myself all regularly tweet IS/BS really is being ridiculous.. Of course being Labour Ipswich Spy probably never lets the truth get in the way of a good story.

Rushmere Conservatives website is down. Has been for months. Liz Harsant hasn’t updated her blog for a while either. A Political Odyssey hasn’t updated since June 2011.

But then A Riverside View never lets the truth get in the way of a bad story.

I fail to see how Ipswich Spy could ever be seen as overly Labour supporting. As a prominent Suffolk Labour Party figure, although living just outside of Ipswich, standing as a candidate for Suffolk County Council next year in Kesgrave & Rushmere St Andrew I often disagree with the blog, although all the posts are very well written. I believe that the Ipswich Spy blog is neutral as it presents a variety of views with correspondents from many walks of political life – including Sally Wainman who has frequently stood for Parliament in Ipswich as an independent, although if anything I would say it leans more towards the Conservatives.
