My week ahead 27 May- 2 June 2013

Tuesday 28 May 6:30pm South West Area Committee at Greenfinch Church, Greenfinch Avenue.

This week Ipswich Labour’s incompetence lead them to losing the chair of the North East Area committee. North East Committee has five Labour councillors and four Conservative Councillors But because all committees need new Chairmen following the Annual Council meeting, one missing Labour councillor left the committee tied on four votes all.

Deputy Council Leader Neil Macdonald was not at the start of the meeting so when nominations for Chairman were called for, Labour nominated the author of the dRoss Blog to continue in the post, but Conservative Councillor John Carnall nominated Conservative Councillor Richard Pope. Since the vote was tied at 4 votes each, Alasdair Ross reluctantly relinquished the Chair, seconding the motion for Richard Pope to be Chairman. Councillor Pope was then elected. When Neil Macdonald arrived, about an hour after the start of the meeting, Labour councillors tried to table a vote to re-elect the author of the dRoss Blog as Chairman for the next meeting, but they were told by the officers that this was unconstitutional. Alasdair has now gone off to fair Verona to sulk. Ipswich Spy has more on the amusing story here.

Just as Alasdair was getting over being called a moron on twitter by a 15 year old. I’ve been informed that Alasdair‘s fellow socialist, Matthew ‘Labour haven’t got contempt for South West Ipswich Residents. It’s just that sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind’ Percy has told the 15 year old off. Socialists are such condescending people aren’t they?

I doubt if the South West Area Committee will be as exciting as the North East one but we’ll have to wait and see.

For a start Kevin I did not tell the teenager off and neither is he 15. Because I know him on a personal level I simply asked him whether he thought it acceptable. I said I couldn’t give two hoots whether he agreed or disagreed with Alasdair, but said that it was always advisable not to call people names, however heated the debate. After all this sort of behaviour is what puts many people off from getting involved in politics.

No, Kevin I know you purely on a political level and oppose nearly everything you stand for. You are an adult fully capable of making your own decisions in life. I was simply giving my friend (although not on a party-political level) some advice. Whether he chooses to accept that advice is totally up to him.
